Early Life and Education

Edi Rama, born Edvin Rama on July 4, 1964, is an Albanian politician, painter, writer, former university lecturer, publicist, and former basketball player. He was born in Tirana, Albania, and studied painting at the Academy of Arts in Tirana. After graduating, he worked as a painter and exhibited his work both in Albania and internationally.

Political Career

Rama entered politics in the early 1990s, joining the Socialist Party of Albania. He quickly rose through the ranks and served as Minister of Culture and Youth from 1998 to 2000. In 2000, he was elected Mayor of Tirana, a position he held for three terms. During his time as mayor, Rama implemented a series of ambitious urban renewal projects that transformed the city into a more vibrant and modern metropolis. He also established the Tirana International Film Festival, which has become one of the most important cultural events in the Balkans. In 2013, Rama was elected Prime Minister of Albania after his Socialist Party won a landslide victory in the general election. He has since led the country through a period of significant political and economic reforms.
